Google Chrome Just Got Faster

May 27th, 2009 hunter Comments off

Google recently announced updates and improvements to the Chrome web browser. I have had Chrome installed since the first day it came out and use it from time to time but Firefox is still my browser of choice. I have been playing with it though and have noticed that it is very responsive and is actually a pleasant user experience and according to TechPost stats 7.8% of the visitors to this site are using Chrome. Below is a post from the official Google blog.

We introduced Google Chrome back in September, and it’s received a great response so far. Since launching, we’ve been working hard on adding the top requested features and making Google Chrome even faster.

Today, we are updating to a new version of Google Chrome that is faster than ever. JavaScript-heavy web pages will now run about 30% faster. See the chart below or compare scores yourself.

Additionally, we’ve added some useful features like form autofill, full screen mode, and the ability to remove thumbnails from the New Tab page.

If you’re already using Google Chrome, you’ll be automatically updated with these new features soon. If you haven’t downloaded Google Chrome, get the latest version at google.com/chrome.

Manage Bookmarks and Passwords on Multiple Computers

May 19th, 2009 hunter 1 comment

xmarksHave you ever been at work and wanted to visit site example.com but couldn’t remember what it was called and the bookmark for it was on your home computer? Well, I have a nifty solution to keep all of your computers bookmarks and passwords synchronized. Xmarks is a free program that works with Firefox, IE7, and Safari and it keeps the browsers you use in sync on every computer you use.  If you happen to be on a public computer you can also use the service to access your bookmarks and passwords from the Xmarks website.

Half of you are probably wondering why you should hand all your passwords over to some service in the name of convenience. Well, you’re not – the password sharing is turned off by default and if you want to use it you have to create an access pin. The passwords are encrypted and transmitted for synchronization, not even Xmarks can view the data.

The Xmarks service has a few more features such as site info and smart search but I will let you dive deeper into them.

Find Xmarks on the web at http://www.xmarks.com

PS: If you are not already using Firefox I highly recommend you check it out. http://www.getfirefox.com
